Do Not Fall for Latest E-Mail Scams
MS e-mail users are the target of two new scams being circulated through campus. Please do not respond to any e-mail message that requests your account information. This message is NOT an official communication from Stony Brook University’s Division of Information Technology.
The scam is being sent from “TECHNICAL SUPPORT” (info@ms.cc.sunysb.edu) or “Support Team” (support@ms.cc.sunysb.edu) and asks you to confirm your ms.cc.sunysb.edu webmail account information. It asks you to reply to the e-mail message with your current password and says failure to do so will result in your account being deactivated. One of the messages contains a special note that contains a link. Do not click on this link.
Anytime you see a request for this kind of information, even if it appears to come from the campus e-mail, you should do the following:
- Forward the message to: abuse@stonybrook.edu
- Move it to the junk mail folder for further forensic analysis. Do not follow any instructions contained in the message.
Please be reminded that no one in the Division of Information Technology or anyone else at Stony Brook University will ever request you to provide your user ID, password, etc. via e-mail.
If you have any questions, please contact West Campus Client Support at (631) 632-9800 or the East Campus Help Desk at (631) 444-HELP.
