Cyber Security Alerts Concerning Java
Both New York State and the federal government have issued cyber security alerts concerning the Sun Java environment that is installed on most personal computers. The latest update of the Java Runtime Environment will fix the vulnerabilities.
If you have Java 6, you should be on Java 6 Update 11. If you have Java 5, you should be on Java 5 Update 17. To find out your current update version, go to Java’s Web site and click on the link “Do I have Java?” It will detect and display the Java version installed on your machine. If you do not have one of the versions above, go back to the Java home page to download and install the latest version.
- Notes
- You must have administrative rights on your machine to do this.
- Uncheck the box that loads the MSN toolbar before you begin the installation.
- Uninstall any older versions of Java Runtime Environment. Go to “Add Remove Programs” in your Control Panel (if you have Windows XP) or “Programs and Features” (if you have Vista) and remove all older versions of Java Runtime Environment.
