WolfieNet

Questions? Get Help

WolfieNet is the wireless (Wi-Fi) network in the residence halls. The majority of residence halls will have wireless available in time for the Fall 2009 semester. To find out the operational status of each building, please see the Residential Networking Upgrade page.

** Please Note ** If you have a Windows computer and are reading this page before arriving on campus for move-in day, it would be to your benefit to download the "WolfieNet-AirNet Connection Installer" or the PDF instructions now (found down below under "Making a Connection - Windows Users") and save for use when you get to campus and want to connect to WolfieNet. If you do not download the "WolfieNet-AirNet Connection Installer" before you come to campus, then you will have to plug into the wired network in order to return to this page for the connection instructions.

Wireless Networks

All access points in residence hall rooms will broadcast two networks.

  • WolfieNet-Secure:
    • Encrypted wireless network (WPA2-Enterprise)
    • Protects against identity theft
    • Supports wireless networking standards 802.11 a, b, g, or n
    • For laptops, desktops, smartphones and other mobile devices
    • Support is offered through the Client Support Walk-in Center
  • WolfieNet-Open:
    • Open, unencrypted network
    • Supports wireless networking standards 802.11 a, b, g, or n
    • For game consoles such as XBOX 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, etc.
    • Should not be used for everyday computing

Making a Connection

WolfieNet-Secure requires certain settings and authentication with a NetID and NetID password. Students will only need to set up their connection and authenticate to WolfieNet-Secure one time. Whenever a student's NetID password changes, re-authentication is requested.

Registration

  • Separate registration is required for both wired and wireless networks.
  • When registering wirelessly, disconnect the wired connection.
  • Wireless cards should be turned off when registering on the wired network.
  • Microsoft updates and up-to-date anti-virus software are required to register on both networks.
  • Students should register their computers on the wired network before registering on the wireless network.
