MySBfiles

Stony Brook University provides 500 MB of file storage for all students, faculty, and staff on MySBfiles.

Advantages

Connecting When You Are On Campus

  • If you are at a SINC Site computer just log in to the SUNYSB.EDU domain using your NetID and password and you will see the shortcut on the desktop. The shortcut will either be labeled "My Documents," "MySB Drive," or "~Your NetID." You can drag and drop files to this shortcut. Residential Hall computer labs are NOT SINC Sites and may not be set up this way.
  • Windows XP and Vista Users: If you are at a campus computer (i.e., in your office) and you are logged in to the SUNYSB.EDU domain you will find a network drive already mapped to MySBfiles in My Computer.
  • Windows XP and Vista Users: If you are at a campus computer (i.e., in your office) and you are NOT logged in to the SUNYSB.EDU domain or are using ResNet, AirNet or WolfieNet you must map a network drive yourself so that you may have easy access to MySBfiles.
  • Mac users may have an shortcut to MySBfiles on their desktop or can go to Finder, click Go > Connect to Server and type the following server address: smb://mysbfiles.campus.stonybrook.edu/~NetID. If prompted to authenticate enter sunysb.edu\NetID and your NetID password.

Connecting When You Are Off Campus

  • Windows XP and Vista users must add a network place/location for read/write access to their MySBfiles folder.
  • Mac users go to Finder, click Go > Connect to Server and type the following server address: https://mysbfiles.stonybrook.edu/home.
  • If you simply want read-only access to your MySBfiles, open a Web browser and type the URL https://mysbfiles.stonybrook.edu/home.

You will be prompted to log in using your NetID and NetID password. While editing documents, it is recommended that you save them locally because it is extremely slow to save directly to your MySBfiles from off campus. When you are finished editing, just remember to save the document back to your MySBfiles folder.
