SOLAR System Help

Initial SOLAR Password

For students - your initial SOLAR password is your date of birth in mmddyy format (example: May 5, 1973 would be typed as 050573).

For faculty/staff (or if you are both a student and an employee) - your initial SOLAR password can be obtained by clicking the SOLAR Password Help link on the SOLAR Login page. Enter your Stony Brook ID and click Submit. A password will be electronically generated and instructions for how to construct your password will be sent to your "preferred" e-mail address as it is listed in the University system.

After you log in using your initial (or reset) password you will be prompted to change it. The password should contain a combination of letters, numbers and symbols and be something that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess (avoid common words or names, etc.). NEVER share your SOLAR password with anyone!

Resetting Your SOLAR Password

  • Go to the SOLAR login screen and click SOLAR Password Help.
  • You will be asked to supply certain personal information which is stored within your records.
  • A new password consisting of additional information in your records will be created.
  • Instructions for creating this new password (not the new password itself) will be e-mailed to you at the e-mail address on file in SOLAR.
  • If for any reason the above steps do not work for you, go to the SOLAR login page and click To Report Problems and fill out the form. You will be contacted by phone or e-mail.

Report a Problem

If you do not have a valid "preferred" e-mail address listed in the University system, or are unable to reset your password, or are having problems using the SOLAR System you may report a problem. You will be asked to submit a trouble ticket with accurate contact information. Students can go to SINC Sites in the Library, Student Union, HSC Library or Computing Center for assistance.
