SOLAR System

Questions? Get Help

The SOLAR System is the University's self-service system which gives faculty, staff, and students online access to manage personal information. If you are a student, you use it to register for classes, print your schedule, view and pay your bill, update your personal information, etc. If you are an employee, you use it to update your personal information, view your vacation/sick accruals, print class rosters, submit grades, etc.

To access the SOLAR System go to www.stonybrook.edu/solarsystem

When you are hired or admitted to the University you are assigned a Stony Brook ID and issued an ID Card. This ID is used to log in to the SOLAR System.

Passwords

For students - your initial SOLAR password is your date of birth in the following format mmddyy.

For faculty/staff (or if you are both a student and an employee) - your initial SOLAR password can be obtained by clicking the SOLAR Password Help link on the SOLAR Login Page. Enter your Stony Brook ID and click Submit. A password will be electronically generated and instructions for how to construct your password will be sent to your "preferred" email address as it is listed in the University system.

After you log in using your initial (or reset) password you will be prompted to change it. The password should contain a combination of letters, numbers and symbols and be something that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess (avoid common words or names, etc.). NEVER share your SOLAR password with anyone!
